Brian Calley is Pro Life

 

In 2009, I sponsored HR 162, which memorializes Congress to explicitly exclude abortion coverage from any government health care plan that is developed.  I also cosponsored HB 4212 which would prohibit partial birth abortions in Michigan.

 

Life is sacred and it should be protected at its beginning and at its natural end.  Brian has consistently fought to defend the most vulnerable in our society.  From the very moment of conception, a new life begins growing and developing.   Our nation was founded on a very simple, yet profound premise, found in the Declaration of Independence.

 

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

 

Brian knows what it is like to hold a baby younger than 9 months gestation.  You see, his son was born nearly two months early and spent 26 days in intensive care.  “Sitting day after day next to an incubator, watching a machine takes breaths for your son, really puts things into perspective” said Calley of the experience.

 

Brian is proud of his prolife voting record and is the only candidate in this race that carried the endorsement of Right to Life of Michigan PAC in past elections.

Brian Calley Cherishes Our

Agricultural Heritage

 

Brian and Julie's children are the 6th generation of Powells to walk the sesquicentennial family farm in Northern Ionia County.  Michigan’s agricultural industry is now the largest, most productive economic sector in the state.

Michigan is still an exporting state when it comes to agriculture.  We do it better than anyone else.  While much of the Michigan economy is shrinking, agriculture continues to add jobs and production.  It is a real gem.

Domestic production of food is a vital national security concern.  We must fight to maintain the ability to produce an adequate and consistent supply.  In America, we know too well the danger of relying on other countries for our energy.  We cannot afford to let that happen to our food supply.  Supporting the American Farmer is not just practical, it is patriotic.

 

Brian Calley Believes We Have a Right to Choose Our Own Health Care

 

In 2009 I sponsored a House Joint Resolution CC to place before voters in the next general election a Constitutional amendment to recognize that “every person has a right to provide for his or her own health care,” and to prohibit any state law or rule that would directly or indirectly “compel any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system.”
